Church History

The history of Galloway United Methodist Church is a history of helping others.  Rev. J.M. DeWoody organized the Galloway Church in 1875 with 68 members.  Services were held in a schoolhouse until 1881 when the first church building was constructed.  In 1960 a new church building was constructed on its  present location.  In 1994 the building became too small to house the growing ministries.  There were 40 adults meeting for Sunday School in the parsonage because the church had no room for them.

In 1993 the attendance at Galloway was around 165 people on a Sunday morning.  The worship service now averages over 300.  Around 100 of those are children and youth.

In 1995 the plans were finalized to add on to the church building and by 1998 we had added a new fellowship hall, a new education wing, a new office complex, a new greeting area and, most importantly, a prayer room.  This $750,000 project has helped the church be prepared to meet the ongoing need in the community for ministry.

In 2002 the church added a new children's room called Camp J.C., and a new youth ministry called RUSH which includes a game room.

In 2006 the church added a new worship center that houses the current “new” sanctuary, nurseries, and office space.
